Common Core Writing Prompts - Creative, Not Just for Children

Common Core Writing Prompts - Creative, Not Just for ChildrenThe Common Core State Standards for Writing is a set of standards, tests and guidelines to help teachers and students to write coherent and interesting essays. While it is relatively easy to understand, it is often overlooked by many individuals due to the overwhelming amount of hype surrounding it.A few months ago, I attended a Common Core workshop where a project was presented that was featured in a magazine article. One of the speakers, a counselor from the middle school, explained that a variety of essays had been submitted from a local area by the student's teachers. The writer's responses were questioned and compared with the other essays to see which ones were more successful. It became quite clear as the course went on that the writer's job was not to win a prize or to be awarded a certificate, but rather to really tap into the feelings of the child's future self and express their interests. Of course, the assignment s given during the program were never meant to encourage the student to actually finish the assignments and create a scholarship award, but rather to prompt them to build their own ideas in a manner that would enable them to eventually pursue a career in some aspect of education. However, while attending the workshop I realized that I have had the opportunity to research this topic for years and have learned just as much as any Common Core teacher has. In fact, I can say that I do know exactly what Common Core means to a child and I have found that I am able to relate to this very closely. In my mind, a child has two aspects that they will be looking for as they engage with this educational initiative - they are looking for an improved level of standard in their current teaching and learning and, most importantly, an improvement in their future employment prospects. It is important for us to ensure that we get as much out of our children as we possibly can and by helping them to utili ze their creative minds to make positive changes in the world around them. During my Common Core workshops, I've been amazed at the clarity of thought that all of the instructors and students alike bring to the classroom every day. Now, I just want to continue this same trend, so I will continue my Common Core writing prompts list and make sure that I give you the guidelines that I will provide so that you are able to write essays of interest and value to your future.Keep in mind that we teach our children the values and principles of the Common Core in order to help them succeed in the world. These skills are beneficial in today's economy and many of the nation's best employers look to the creative talents of their employees.
